ARE BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS FORBIDEN BY GOD?

Here is what JW.org says about blood transfusions.

http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/jehovahs-witnesses-why-no-blood-transfusions/

Here is a quote:  ” Why don’t Jehovah’s Witnesses accept blood transfusions?  This is a religious issue rather than a medical one. Both the Old and New Testaments clearly command us to abstain from blood (Genesis 9:4;  Leviticus 17:10;  Deuteronomy 12:23;  Acts s the heart, vessels, and so on — it is essential for life. But when ingested it’s 15:28, 29) Also, God views blood as representing life. (Leviticus 17:14) So we avoid taking blood not only in obedience to God but also out of respect for him as the Giver of life.”

In Summary, the JW Organization view is:

1)  Bible says to abstain from blood.
2)  Life is in the blood – respect Jehovah as life giver.

OUR RESPONSE:

We know the there is much health advice in the Old Testament.  Blood in the heart and vessels is essential for life, but when ingested through the mouth and into the stomach, it is toxic. Okay, so it is good medical advice not to ingest blood.

How is a blood transfusion not respecting Jehovah as life giver?  We get the opposite thought.  By embracing the life and healing benefits of blood transfusions are we not showing our appreciation to Jehovah for his provision of the live giving benefits He has provided in blood?  Since blood represents LIFE, then why not use it save a LIFE, providing it’s not contaminate, but then again without “worldly” donators the JWs couldn’t get blood fraction!

To make a rule of no blood transfusions allowed, which has often resulted in death of a loved one, is not a position we would want to have to defend some day when standing before Jehovah’s judgement seat.

“But flesh with the life thereof, which Is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.”—Ge 9:4

THIS and other similar texts of Scripture are being used by some In an effort to prove that donating blood to save another’s life, or receiving a transfusion of blood, Is forbidden by God and a sin So gross as to result In eternal death. Are we justified In placing such an interpretation upon the divine injunction against eating or drinking the blood of lower animals?

    • Jacqueline

Abel, I will try and get in touch with her on face book or skype and let her know you are writing to her. She is a gem of a sister. She’s been thru an earthquake, still haven’t found her car that she parked. Will try and locate her, okay.
PS. Just sent her a facebook message. She is indeed a little researcher. I don’t know where she gets the time.

If I may say this My 97 yr old grandmother told me when she was a nurse in the 40s that the doctors told her not to take blood just as they don’t because the don’t screen for everything. true today the have a lot more screening but it takes up to 6 months for the hiv virus to show up on the test. So it is not only scriptural but for good all around health. my aunts 1 has sicle sill anemia has blood transfusions every week and just keeps getting worse. my other aunt got a blood transfusion over 30 yrs ago and now she finds ound she has liver cancer from the blood that she got. and i know many more stories like theses even my own mother. so the JWs are right not to take blood.

    Dear Peter

Here are my recommended Links on Jehovah’s Witnesses and Blood Transfusions

    • On all topics involved:
Associated Jehovah’s Witnesses for Reform on Blood: http://www.ajwrb.org/
I especially recommend Jehovah’s Witnesses the section on the biblical perspective: http://www.ajwrb.org/bible/index.shtml

    • On the doctrinal basis and the ambiguities of current policy:
Article: “Jehovah’s Witnesses, Blood Transfusions, and the Tort of Misrepresentation” Journal of Church and State, September 22, 2005. Author: Louderback-Wood, Kerry
Written by an attorney who was personally affected by the no-blood policy. It seems longer than what it actually is because of the number of references listed, which give it substance and credibility. The essay exposes the vulnerability of the Watchtower Society to tort claims because of the religion’s misrepresentations of secular writers in the 1990 pamphlet: “How blood can save your life”, published by the Watchtower Society, used to teach Jehovah’s Witnesses the no-blood policy for the last two decades.

Now the full article is available online for free:

    • On medical advances for bloodless procedures:
    No blood!: http://www.noblood.com
This was a major site and excellent source for information on bloodless medicine. We would like to see the Watchtower Society provide financial backing for this site since the service they provide can help save lives of JWs who cannot conscientiously accept blood or blood products.

    Hi friends
I have just read this article on the misinterpretations that are made in the JW brochure “How blood can save your life? ”
I have found a link where the whole article is available, so it is not necessary to write to the author o request a copy, as suggested in the sixscreensofthewatchtower, which also recommends it. I have been reading the JW pamflet before I read this peer-reviewed article, and it sure does a good job of exposing many IMPORTANT facts that have been deliberately ommited so as to promote the Society’s doctrine. Here it is:

Some of you might have seen it before, but them itmay new to others, and if a life can be saved, lets spread the word!

Thanks Mrs Researcher. I appreciate that you have great knowledge and interest in the issue of “blood transfusions.” I wonder if your would be interested in giving us what you feel are the top three to five best links on this topic?

  • infaliabilty of Bible

transfussion of blood is not eating of blood, only felling empty vessels of vains necessary to flow to a brain and body oxigen and basics nutrients supporting weak body, transfussion is not like stream of blood mixed with potatoes,or blood soup with rice…or drink blood mixed with whiskey….

  • infaliabilty of Bible

Bible do,nt menschen even one word about blood transfussions, one time menschen only in Leviticus about stream of blood has to be put to ground, policy of WTS JW is not biblical and do,nt close doors for somebody who took blood to be saved or save own babe or fiend.Salvation only is dependent from mercy and grace of God,true christian freedom is freedom of Christ and own free will not crazy policy of some”big boys of WTS JW playing big gods over souls of naive little b/s”and trying to be judges of own members..WTS JW GB have to pray himself for own salvation and not worry about own private decissions of christians.
Jesus sheeded HIS own blood for His chosen children,if people love Jesus and His preciouss blood saving us,that true christians suppose to follow steps of Christ……blood is no issue to salvation..issue is a grace and mercy of our God if HE WILL SAVE US Ephesos 1;3-9…
2Thess 3;2…and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men;FOR ALL MEN HAVE NOT FAITH…this is plain truth about “leaders” of small naive people

    • Jacqueline

      Hello infaliability of Bible,
I like your wording “blood is no issue to salvation” I am going to use that.
No, the bible does not say anything about blood transfusion. Those 7 men have fallen prey to demonic influence and have lost all their senses. It is no different than child sacrifice to molech in Jeremiah 32:35 “A thing I did not command them, nor did it come up into my heart. Peace

    Dear Jaquie

I am so sorry to hear about the sad loss of your daughter. I am aware of how everytime some hurtful memory is revisited you live it all over again, so I can see why it wore you out to tell me your story. But thanks for doing it anyway, as hopefully it will get to some JW and save a life or more.

    Have a good night too!

    In Christ

      Mrs. Researcher,
      Thank you.
Did you notice the article posted on Disfellowshipping?
I am trying to post the link on other JW websites. This is food at the proper time. The web is abuzz with questions on this subject. Tell us what you think.

  • Jacqueline

Mrs. Researcher 7 million witnesses think about the Blood issue every time they go to the doctor or hospital. If their children get hurt they brace themselves. It is life or death.
At 12 yrs. one of my sons got hit in the head, blood was gushing. My husband and I put our hands over the gash to stop it. I went to the Hospital with blood down my arm and all over my clothes but I didn’t let go. The blood issue chilled my blood.I raised a daughter, she was a pioneer, she left a bible study to pick up her husband and go back to finish, another sister filled in while she was gone. . She never made it back, He never made it back and their son got just a scatch. Drunk Driver. The nurses said she talked for a long time and all she said in between talking to her child was NO BLOOD< NO BLOOD. They put her in the room and closed the curtain, they didn't try. The nurses didn't know I was the mother that raised her, I just came to pick up her things. They were talking about our policy and said they just let her die then if she didn't want blood. She was in bad shape to operation without blood would tie the doctors hands behind their back. Some of them were jovial about our stupidity. It hurt to hear them talking about her. She was just over 25 yrs. Marriage, children, everything is affected when that happens.
Yes, the day every witness dreds happened. I wasn't there, I was to late.
My Father, a witness took blood, I would have overruled her. My father stayed alive to help my mother rear 9 children. It wasn't long but it was enough to teach my brothers things and talk to us about his Cancer. Five months shaped our lives. I am glad he took the blood. Yes they disfellowshipped him and told us because he died DF he went to Gehenna. That't why most witnesses don't want to get DF. Isn't that strange, they say don't die while still out there.
Good nite Mrs. Researcher, thanks for posting. This took a lot out of me.
    In Christ, Jacqueline

    Dear Peter and Jaquie
Thanks for putting in the recent posts this topic, as I would like more people to think and research this topic before they actually need a blood transfusion, as it may be too late. Would you consider putting this topic under “Articles & Posts”, where it may remain for longer, as I guess that once it isn’t recent it will not be visible here anymore?
For a year I have been trying to come back to JWs after my break of 17 years but I came across this topic and just did not see the reasoning as good enough “to die for”, literally. I am kind of borderline now and probably not in for much longer. You may be right, there may not be many JWs interested in it (because we are programmed not to doubt any teachings from the WTS) but lets hope that if people have been inquisitive enough to come to this website they might want to look into it.

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Mrs Researcher
