ARE BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS FORBIDEN BY GOD?

Here is what JW.org says about blood transfusions.

http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/faq/jehovahs-witnesses-why-no-blood-transfusions/

Here is a quote:  ” Why don’t Jehovah’s Witnesses accept blood transfusions?  This is a religious issue rather than a medical one. Both the Old and New Testaments clearly command us to abstain from blood (Genesis 9:4;  Leviticus 17:10;  Deuteronomy 12:23;  Acts s the heart, vessels, and so on — it is essential for life. But when ingested it’s 15:28, 29) Also, God views blood as representing life. (Leviticus 17:14) So we avoid taking blood not only in obedience to God but also out of respect for him as the Giver of life.”

In Summary, the JW Organization view is:

1)  Bible says to abstain from blood.
2)  Life is in the blood – respect Jehovah as life giver.

OUR RESPONSE:

We know the there is much health advice in the Old Testament.  Blood in the heart and vessels is essential for life, but when ingested through the mouth and into the stomach, it is toxic. Okay, so it is good medical advice not to ingest blood.

How is a blood transfusion not respecting Jehovah as life giver?  We get the opposite thought.  By embracing the life and healing benefits of blood transfusions are we not showing our appreciation to Jehovah for his provision of the live giving benefits He has provided in blood?  Since blood represents LIFE, then why not use it save a LIFE, providing it’s not contaminate, but then again without “worldly” donators the JWs couldn’t get blood fraction!

To make a rule of no blood transfusions allowed, which has often resulted in death of a loved one, is not a position we would want to have to defend some day when standing before Jehovah’s judgement seat.

“But flesh with the life thereof, which Is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.”—Ge 9:4

THIS and other similar texts of Scripture are being used by some In an effort to prove that donating blood to save another’s life, or receiving a transfusion of blood, Is forbidden by God and a sin So gross as to result In eternal death. Are we justified In placing such an interpretation upon the divine injunction against eating or drinking the blood of lower animals?

blood in a medical case could be you live or die.

    Hi
I agree with Gasa, the soul is in the blood, all souls belong to Jehovah. He owns them , sacrifice in Israel was Jehovah’s acceptance of the blood that is his. Thus the only blood transfusion should be our own. Jesus gave his blood to save us so why would taking others souls be good for our spiritual health. Jesus blood is good enough for me. Vampirism is the taking of others blood for our health and life.

I have had an operation without blood not a problem, recovery time halved. Our medical liaison committee works with hospital doctors and surgeons to facilitate safe bloodless treatment. Medical authorities cannot guarantee uncontaiinated blood, there is no perfect screening, they can only claim the treatment with blood provides a better chance survival.
If I left JWs I would not want anyone’s soul in mixed with mine, Lev 17 says the soul is in the blood, these souls belong to God not to medical authorities. If you need a heart operation they do not use blood.
Surgeons conducting bloodless surgery have to work slower and do incisions more carefully meaning better surgery, and in uk less stay in hospital beds thereafter.
But of course please yourself in Acts 15 after the apostles prohibited blood with the word ‘abstain’ they said ‘good health to you’ nwt
It’s much easier to insist that it only means eating blood as it says in gn bible it’s a Lot less hassle , we save being shouted at and being told we don’t believe in doctors or that we murder our children.
Of course that not going to happen to those who don’t preach the good news of Christs kingdom as Bro Russell did, but then they say we aren’t doing it properly and others say preaching is not necessary in this particular ‘age’.
There is one thing I don’t see, is the stones crying out so someone is doing the command of Christ as recorded in Mth28:19,20

      Gasa,
Blood transfusions are up to the individual. In the mid-1900’s it was also forbidden to have an organ transplant because Rutherford said it was no different than cannibalism. I personally believe that if the JWs overturn the blood transfusion they would lose a lot of members. I feel they’ve backed themselves into a corner.

Preaching is a requirement. But many JWs don’t preach for obedience to Christ but out of organizational requirement and “pioneer” recognition. It doesn’t matter how much one preaches if the message is wrong then the preaching is useless. Door to door is
Not biblical. It’s not unbiblical either. When it says the taught from house to house it was those who went to homes and taught the Christians because they met in homes and not churches. It doesn’t mean they door knocked and counted hours.

I have prepared a document expressing my scriptural reasons why I WILL accept blood transfusions if it means saving my life. I am having it notarized and giving it to my disfellowship son and a copy in a sealed envelope in my car with instructions that my son give it to the doctors if needed. I have also destroyed my blood card. This takes my wife off the hook and prevents any argument among family, since I am not df’d at this time. For my wifes sake I am putting into the letter that this decision is based on my Christian conscience and in no way should be construed as a desire to disassociate. This would force them to disfellowship me at which point I could possibly have a court case against them or at least it may help open my wifes eyes. Don’t know if it will work but its worth a try.

      Ted,

Sounds very well-thought out, and a creative solution. I hope (and trust) it will bring happy fruitage for you.

      Warmly,

This is the first time I have ever heard this angle or from a person who actually let a child die and later found out they were wrong. If you take oxygen are you taking in water?

I really appreciate you posting this, Jacqueline. Thank you. I can’t imagine living with the kind of regrets I’m sure this father has.

Although there seems to be much debate about just how much water is in blood, the fact remains that blood is an aqueous solution, and since we live in a closed eco-system, all that water will be recycled continuously forever. So really, it could be truthfully stated that water is a blood fraction. So who can say whether or not that water droplet you just consumed wasn’t previously a blood component?

Whenever you set out to split hairs, you are only going to create more hairs to split. You’ll never finish and you’ll never be satisfied.

But Greg, these men are the only men on the face of the earth that God talks too. Everything they say or do are to be obeyed and believed until they change it. There would not be a legal hole they could hide in if I let my child die and found out they know the doctrine had severe problems. Oh i feel so sorry for this man and all of the witnesses that have assisted in the killing of their kids or females. They are like satan, glorying in killing women and their seed as in Eden. So glad Jesus got this! IN the Ransom for all humans. Enjoyed testimony meeting tonight.

LoL. Even if—and of course that’s a HUGE IF, and one tht I’m not ready to swallow— but even IF they are the only one’s on the planet that God is talking to, that doesn’t mean (guarantee) they’re actually listening, nor hearing correctly.

          Sigh…

There were some very powerful statements made on that lovely webpage. Like the one: “We cannot change this. Think about all [persons] who [have already] died [because of our interpretation].”

It’s another way of saying, “We can’t admit we were wrong because of all the persons we’ve already killed. So now we’ve got no choice but to keep on killing others.”

          Sickening!!!!
