In Remembrance of Me – The Passover from Egypt a memorial picture for us

This do in remembrance of me. … For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death.”  —I Corinthians 11:24,26

ON THAT PORTENTOUS evening nearly two thousand years ago, pious Jews all over the land were gathering with their families to celebrate once more the Feast of the Passover. For one small group, this evening held special interest and even premonition. He whom they so dearly loved, and to whom they had been looking for the realization of their long delayed expectations, had been making foreboding statements which both puzzled and troubled them. Only a short time earlier, he had told them, “He must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.” (Matt. 16:21) On other occasions, he had said that he must “go away,” and that he must lay down his life.—John 14:28;16:7

These were strange words from one who had been talking of establishing a kingdom in which they had been led to believe they would share. When one of his followers remonstrated at his exposing himself to death, their Master used the occasion to invite them to also lay down their lives in death, saying, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.”—Matt. 16:24,25

Now, having followed his instructions to prepare the Passover, this little band of twelve had gathered with their Master in the upper room to celebrate the feast. At its conclusion, there came another of those strange statements. “He said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”—Luke 22:15-20

I’m a JW’S becoming more uncertain about the WBTS each day and what they are teaching at the last memorial I went to on the 23 March 2016, I was wondering when they were passing the emblems around why I could not partake of the bread and wine, when Jesus said to the Jews at that time in John 6:50-54. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life and I will resurrect him on the last day. But in verse 40 Jesus also said. Everyone exercisers faith in the Son should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him on the last day. NWT. My point is do we receive a resurrection even if we don’t take the emblems? Please can you help me with these important questions.

Hi Barry, so glad you commented. Normally when we become aware that something is wrong not partaking it is the Holy Spirit of God bringing about that awareness. But for the question you asked:
The emblems whether we partake or not is not why resurrection takes place. Exercising Faith in Christ as you stated will get us life during and after the Millennium and on Jehovah’s judgement day.
Jehovah witnesses say we are in judgement day now but not according to the Bible. He is taking out the Bride and ones to rule and teach man during the thousand years.
Many have fallen asleep in death and there was no emblems before Christ. And many die without ever knowing Christ or about the emblems, but we know they will be resurrected to learn about him and decide while perfect if they want to live or die.
I understand where you are coming from so I am going to post these links first for you to read then it might be a little clearer and you will understand.

I think the third one is what you are asking about: https://www.friendsofjehovahswitnesses.com/category/judgement/
      Now on resurrection.
Scroll through these and click on the ones about resurrection: https://www.friendsofjehovahswitnesses.com/category/ransom-answers/

Once you read this then it might be easier to understand what each one will say. Take Care Barry and again WELCOME!

Hi Jaqueline. hope you are well. Thankyou kindly for your reply. Yes how did they come to the conclusion of ignoring the partaking of the emblems. The way I read it in the scriptures is plain & simple & that is ALL that are dedicated to Christ & have faith in him as our saviour & try their best to follow his ways should be partaking, he commands that we do this in rememberenace of him. Surely if you pass it along without partaking isn’t that rejecting him in a sence & not giving him the honour he so rightly deserves??

Yes, because no one has fought the fine fight and won until death. Jesus said on the cross, it is done! Only after he had fulfilled everything written about him and he felt his spirit leaving he cried out to his Father with his last breath. So to the last breath or if we are alive when the last ones die and are changed we will keep hoping in him. You don’t know until you die that you were faithful and get the upward call. Paul said he was still running until like Jesus he knew it was over, death SEALED his place as a foundation of the church. We are no better than him, so we keep doing it in remembrance of him.
It was so nice when I was among those that loves Jesus and didn’t stand there seeing who was partaking so they could speak with them later. They send the count to Bethel as if they have to let God know. Wow, there are servants in secret that only God and Jesus sees.Arabic and communist lands are but an example, so much for their keeping track. Kindly Jacqueline
Btw thanks for asking, I am doing okay. I am with my JW family in 3 different states. Those that are shunning me keep away and that is okay.

I have been researching the passover & the rememberenace of Jesus’ last supper. Whilst I was involved with the JW’s we used to attend the memorials but I never felt right just passing the bread & wine along & not partake. John 6:41-58 & Luke 22:19,20 for me says it all, Jesus tells us ALL (his disciples)that we should do this in rememberence of him “He who eats my flesh & drinks my blood abides in me & I in him/ is in union we me & I in union with him”.

    Warm & loving regards,

Daz, I always felt that way also.It was like I wanted to show him I lived him at first when I was younger. It was like his last plea because he knew what lay ahead that night, to remember and don’t forget me, I’m doing this for man. As I grew older and began to go thru trials to get to understand the truth about him, it became an obsession to partake in remembrance of him.
Also after learning that the some wiccum did it just like the witnesses, set out the emblems, pass them and not partake. There was no difference. I didn’t want to follow their practice of ignoring what Jesus did for man. All Christians were given this command and all wanted to be with Jesus in his kingdom so where did they get this from to ignore him?
