Sin, Repentence and Forgiveness – How you can receive Jehovah’s forgiveness?

Bible Student elder, Aaron Kuehmichel tenderly examines this topic from the Bible.  Are we sinning?  Is Jehovah unhappy with our behavior and thoughts?  Are we deceiving ourselves into thinking we can confess our sins to Jehovah, then keep on sinning?  What steps can we take to correct our hearts and minds?  How can we get back on the path of Jehovah’s approval and blessing?  To hear this enlightening and thoughtful talk (discourse), click here:  Sin Repentance And Forgiveness_Kuehmichel-Aaron_2011-09-18_S_24k

SCRIPTURES TO CONSIDER:

We Are All Sinners

Romans 3:23  For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Isaiah 64:6  We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.

We Need To Confess Our Sin

Proverbs 28:13  People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.

Hosea 5:15  Then I will return to my place until they admit their guilt and turn to me. For as soon as trouble comes, they will earnestly search for me.”

God Forgives Our Sin

1 John 1:7-9  But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.  If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Forgiving One Anothers Sins

Luke 17:3-4  So watch yourselves!    “If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive. Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.”

Examples of Sin

Colossians 3:5-6   So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.  Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.

Galatians 5:19-21  When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,  idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,  envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

David’s prayer for forgiveness after his sin with Bathsheba is rightly considered a model expression of repentance and plea for forgiveness. It is noteworthy that this Psalm is assigned to the chief musician — as a hymn to be repeatedly sung.  There is no attempt to hide or downplay his misdeed, his repentance is both public and, by repetition, enduring. Nor does he wait for his sin to be discovered, but makes his public confession “when Nathan the prophet came unto him,” upon the first realization of the enormity of his guilt.

Last post for a while, all thought I had some great info for you and Chuck.

If God wills it will come to you some day.

As to the choice of two ways. They were taken from C.T. Russell. And your life is your life, I certainly am not saying you have to pick one or the other. It was what was taught back then as they were Bible Students believing in the Divine Plan of the Ages.

So I hope you all have a great day. Sorry there I go again. Do what ever!

I really prefer to say have a great day, rather than do what ever.

    Hank

    • Daz

Hi Hank, no worries, I get what you are saying, again thankyou for your comments.

      Kind regards,
      Daz

    • Hank,
I have held off on responding because I felt I might have come off as a little condescending earlier. Or at the least disrespectful of your comments.

But “there you go again” to quote a president.
In this post you state to me and Daz:
“If God wills it will come to you some day.”
As if he hasn’t? I now realize it is not I that is condescending but you and I cannot let this stand with a clear conscience.

What if what God HAS willed his purposes and plans to come to others and it does not agree with your beliefs? Are you that confident the Org. has it right?

Why is it when I and others have asked heartfelt questions you avoid and evade and go in a different direction? You almost always create a distraction. Do you truly not understand our questions or statements or are you trained to do this? There are people on this site with truly heartfelt concerns about the organization they have been part of and how it has harmed them. Your comments do nothing to put their concerns at rest and give them peace but fans the flames and instills more doubt.

You are so certain that you know it all while stating that you are humble (look up theocratic warfare). Your comments cannot hide your intentions and beliefs although you do a good job of trying. You try to use Br. Russells writings to make yourself seem informed and to try and humble those you are responding to when you can’t answer the question. This tactic will not work. You as a JW may answer to a Human or their Org. (I know you will say no to this but your unwavering devotion to the JW org. is obvious) but as Bible Students we do not. Br. Russell’s teachings and messages are an inspiration but not even he was perfect.

I would ask you to please tell me I am wrong about all this but even if you did I just could not believe you.
      Sincerely,
      Br. Chuck

Sorry, could have added this on last post. Your convention, starts Saturday, but like the other conventions when I click them, it is possible to get online to listen, but your is the only one that doesn’t work.

    Will that be changing?

    Sincerely Hank

    • Jacqueline

I will refer this over to Br. Peter or Br. Kris and they will have to answer you about the conventions. We are not here to convince JW to leave their organization, but to help those in travail.
Hank, I had to learn coming from the JW community not to judge or tell people what their choices are. Let their brains function, it takes time for that to happen after coming out of any high control group.
Also you say do just desire all to repent to Jehovah that provision is made by means of Christ.
I just see you for who you are Hank. You have your special times to come on and new ones aren’t aware of your tactics. But you also get persons to check the site when it spreads that you told someone off.
I feel obligated to let people know you are a witness even tho you quote from Br. Russell and most of us here carry on discussions quoting the Bible. You take Care Hank. I will only jump in when I see you being disrespectful to new posters. I think the ones posting now can make their own decisions. We all however will observe the rules of decency. And I do refer to the reference to Daz wife and child, that is typical JW apologist fare. And I also realize as an apologist for the watchtower society you have a job to do. However the watchtower does not have an open comment and dialogue section except for those that have the code.
Even now you are creating a distractions and making it all about you. You are a witness and their apologist our goals are different her. Yours is to scare and lead ones back to your organization under the leadership and thumb of the governing body.
Ours is to help xjw or those with doubts to go to Christ and rest a bit then without fear of thinking they are going to be destroyed at armageddon (JW burning Hellfire doctrine) they can get to know God and Jesus in a different way.

      • Daz

Hi again dear Jacqueline, may I ask, what do you mean when you refer to Hank as a Jw apologist, I am not familiar with what this actually is. I get it that he comes on & defends the organization but don’t quite get why he is called an “apologist”. Hope you don’t mind explaining this to me.
        Warm & loving regards,
        Daz

        • Jacqueline

Hi Daz, a·pol·o·gist (-pl-jst) n. A person who argues in defense or justification of something, such as a doctrine, policy, or institution. apologist (əˈpɒlədʒɪst) n ..Sort of like a filibuster in the Senate, they will talk for days about nothing. Some of it is truth but the point is to burn up time and energy.
This person will stay the course in defense of what they believe and will troll websites that have conversations that are being listened to against what they stand for.
They sometimes will just jam up that site by making everything about what they want to talk about. In the case of JW apologist they will use lingo that will scare some witnesses in hiding or away from that site.
You might know some of the more well known ones: Greg Stafford, Nelson Hale, Tony Byall to name a few. Greg actually left the watchtower and they denounced his speaking for them as he began to have doubts as xjw stayed the course with him. He appeared in interviews and wrote about his experiences. Then he went back to the organization. But an apologist will comment to everybody and have everyone defending against what he brings up. They are not deterred by jumping on them so to speak as this is what they do. It is effective I must add as it will get to be all about them and not anything useful. Also they are copy and paste people from books and will pretend to be on your side then cut you down. The weaker ones will cow down before them, be polite, or leave as they think the governing body or something is looking at the site. They tolerate the apologist although officially JR Brown is their spokeperson (Know him from childhood in my uncle’s home and cong.) Some take it upon themselves to defend as an unrelenting apologist. They are not like normal posters with a point or a question. Their job is to disrupt especially if they see it is a website that has sincere lookers.
Their tenacity and overlooking of regular posters and come on at certain times and conversations identify them.
For instance this site is not about going back to Jehovah witnesses or explaining JW doctrine. The average person on here is well versed in the doctrine of the JW but an apologist will copy and paste it anyway. Simple stuff just to take up space and get you to talking about them. They attack lots of sites, normally we will past their names and tags on so other sites will recognize them before they spend to much time thinking they are sincere. Sometimes when they treat people bad and jab at them too harshly sites have to ban them as people don’t ask a question to be put down, they have their opinion also. Bible Students have opinions on subjects with each other and remain the best of gentlemen and you can really learn the bible from different perspectives but we hold certain doctrines as one with each other.
Hank appears often, he is lovable but I just feel I need friends to know who they are talking to. Hank has heard it all before it rolls right off of him, that is what he does as his ministry.lol

Yes you can give it to Dupin. I think people are being way to over sensitive. Why? They say they want to express themselves freely. All the words I shared on dedication and the Great Company were from Charles Taze Russell’s teachings.

On that post I stayed away from the Bible, which sadly offends some.

Please reread my last one and note (Z whatever in brackets) from C.T. Russell’s time.

With the advancements of your character to a mild loving husband and father the Bible Students may have something for you. If you are ready to take the step. What step?

    Two options.

    1. To disclaim all right to oneself from henceforth to your life. Your body, your time, your health, your reputation, your talents, or anything that belongs to you. Must confess oneself to be the property of the Redeemer. To dedicate oneself to Him, to serve, love and trust Him for your life and salvation to your life’s end.

    2. (Z.’10:141) But the argument above would seem conclusively to prove that the merit of Christ must continue applicable until the last members of the Great Company class shall have suffered the complete destruction of the flesh which he failed to give up voluntarily.

Either way you win———–heavenly life. Immortal and mortal. Kings and priests to govern or rule. Or assist the bride class, the David class, faithful Daniel class. Or the no class which as stated will assist the bride class.

It sounds like a win, win, win, situation to me. Except, I lake the knowledge as to what happens to your wife and child. Just guessing, but your wife could do the same. But the little one I am not sure of.

Peter will hopefully explain. In which case we can learn together.

    Hank

P.S. Still waiting for Dupin on the GENTILE TIMES.

    • Jacqueline

Hank you just can’t stop telling people what to do can you to discourage them. Is that just a personality trait or is it deliberate?
Daz doesn’t need you to sum up what choices he will make. He could choose to sit on a mountain and eat a sandwich.
May I give Dupin your email address so you and he can converse that way? Be cause I can see you jamming up the website as you do as an apologist.
      I hope Daz ignores you.
I received a call from a new person to the site and they were looking over it and was just appalled by some jabs you took with commenters. I explained that we were not on the ball and that you are a Jehovah witness not a Bible Student, They understood, thankfully.

      • Daz

Thankyou Jacqueline for responding on behalf of me, much appreciated.
to Hank: Hi Hank, I am not quite sure what you are getting atin particular . I am very aware that I would have to dedicate myself to Christ, I got that bit but you lost me some-what further down the line??
        Kind reards,

    Lovely article!
Forgivness can be a difficult thing especially if you are an angry person, I talk from experience as used be SO angry all the time mostly because of injustices & carlessness by account of others.
I have learned that part of the key to receive forgivness & to be able to forgive is to first “heal yourself”. Forgive yourself & understand your flaws & realize that you & everyone else are all the same, imperfected. If you beat yourself up on a daily basis like I used to then you will never really grasp the concept of forgivness & will sink deeper & deeper into a state or either depression or self worthlessness. Accept yourself & all your faults & work at putting on the new personality as mentioned in the fruits of the spirit. If you do not love yourself then you cannot love others or truly forgive them . . . .
    Warm & loving regards,
    Daz

  • Sharyn Money,

Hello. My name is Domenic. Like you I am a sinner. I try very hard to not be, but I keep stumbling over myself. Jesus said, “There is only one who is good, God.” The difference between Gods people, and the world…God people keep trying to be good.
True your profile make up is effected from your past. True also, things of your past will effect how you deal with people, and other problems. There is not much we can do about that right now outside of asking God for help.
    Put aside what the elders have told you. This is how God judges all of us;
“If Sharyn, and Domenic were on a paradise earth with a perfect body, and mind…without the Influence of Satan, would they serve me? If the answer is yes, we will be there. He does not judge us in our present state…if he did, no one would be there. All we can do is put our trust in Gof the Father, and our Lord Jesus. Remember, bad stuff does not come from God…it comes from Satan, and Satan does not wast his time attacking bad people…he only attacks the good ones, he already has the bad ones. So from what I read of you, you must be a very good person. Like Jesus said, “If they do this to me, what do you think they will do to you?” We are all going to get it, one way or another. Rejoice…I keep telling myself that. I also keep praying for God to make me strong.

    To ZenoDotus and all;

Suggest reading the 1988 October 15th Watch Tower pages 25-29 for a balanced view of this matter. It is no laughting game and is very serious. It even has a part for elders, who are not doctors but show wonderful God-like attributes in dealing with them.

  • Mich

Replying to dear Sharyn. I guess in bible times mental health issues were not recognised. If its not I quote “biblical” Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t seem to acknowledge a subject.

  • Sharyn Money

I sinned and Jehovah loved me so much as to retore my to his organization three months ago. I have been very ill, but still witness where ever I am and attend the meetings when my health lets me. When I cannot physically I listen on the telephone conference line which is such a blessing. I take delight in witnessing when the opportunity arises. Mostly to patients at the various Dr’s offices and where I go to get for what seems like endless time that provides an ample audience to continue to praise Jehovah his his pupose for mankind. My question is this. I have PTSD and was abused for the majority of my life. When I learned about Jehovah my heart was ready and waiting. AFter 40 years of serving Jehovah faithfully, I sinned, but after three years was reinstated. I am glad Jehovh disciplined me I know he disciplines those whom he loves. I mistakening fell in love with a married man who had not been with his wife as husband and wife for most of their married life. He also treated me with deep respect until I should, but want and ended up falling in love with a worldly man. He is now in prison ( I met him and knew him outside of prison for almost a year as I was helping his fleshly sister who was a babized witness; question is this: I have been abused the majority of my life and have low self esteem. I know Jehovah has taken me back, but during discussions with the judicial committee previously to my recent reinstatement, I was told that even though I have severe mental problems they could not consider any of this and I was unable to explain how my mind broke when I committed the sin of fornication with this man on one occasion. I then was so remoseful I attempted to take my life and told the brother I confessed to a day after it happened. I am rattling so I will get to the main question I have. Is it an absolute rule that circumstances such as mental breakdown leading to sin occurs that the brothers are not allowed to take into consideration the factors which led to the sin due to overwhelming pain from major depression and other emotional issues when speaking with a mentally ill person? I spent 11 weeks in a medical hospital and psychiatric hospital with no contact with the elders as they were told my children children that I could see no one. My doctors did not give these orders or nor the hospital, but nonetheless for this period and during the period before my disfellowshipping I had not had any spheparding calls to reinforce my spiritual weakeness nor talked to any elders other than confessing my sins immediately to them. When I returned back to the congregation after the hospitalization and no contact with spiritual shepards I was then disfellowshipped. I am blessed tha that Jehovah love me enough to discipline me; however, when I was removed from the congregation. My question is this: due to my severe emotional breakdown when I returned 11 weeks after the failings by myself and no spiritual counsel during those 11 weeks I was told that my mental health would not be considered as the organization had told them that the only basis they could talk to me was on scriptual matters and to go to my doctors for mental health (which I have to do even today). There is so much in the Bible about Jehovah’s and Jeus’ compassion onf depressed souls I hope you can help me understand why the elders could not understand under normal circumstances I possibly would have been able to break free from this worldy man. I am blessed now to be back in the congregation and I do no feel any anger or animosity towards the three elders; i only wish to understand why they could not see the pain and anguish I was in not only over this man, but the treatment of family members; but most importantly why the mentally broken condition of a person who has committed a heinous sin agains Jehovahs not allowed to be considered. Thank you for any input you could help me to understand ths line of reasoning. Once again I do not and have not born any animosity or disgraced by bad mouthing any elder in my congregation, but find it odd that non functioning mentally as I was at the time was considered off limits. Thank you for any lght you can shed on this matter. Thank you -.

    • Jacqueline

Sharyn, hello this is Jacqueline, welcome. I am aware of someone who’s experiences were similar to yours it was a male however. I want to first say I understand but I won’t speak until the Bible Student elders on this site speak first. I am seeing this at 2:47am don’t know why I am even up let alone coming to the site. This is best answered first by an elder preferably Br. Pete he might not see this right away as our meeeting is tomorrow but I will alert him by text message.
In the meantime I will pray for you to have peace and you have come to the right place, help is on the way. Thank you so much for sharing and I know there are others waiting for an answer to the questions you raised also. In Jesus Dear Name, your sister in Christ, Jacqueline.
PS. Dwell on the fact that God and Jesus forgives you for any and all sins if you ask for it in Jesus name. We all are sinners on this site and the entire world including all elders of JW and the governingbody. It is healthy that you hold no animosity was this attitude while you were ill. I had a case almost exact.

    • Sharyn

When deciding a judicial decision does Jehovah’s organization instruct the judicial committee to not take into consideration anything but scripture – such as the mental state of the sinner?

      • Jacqueline

Hi Sharyn, I was interviewed for one of the first articles that the JW wrote on mental illness. I was able to describe bi-polar, DID and multiple personality disorder and point out so many within the org. Conclusion was that the religions understanding of the paradise earth etc caused many with mental problems to come to the religion. Also door to door will flush out all with such delibilitating illness as the pioneers will spend many hours studying with them and it is a therapy of sorts.
Most elder bodies know nothing truly about memtal illness. On Elder said although he encouraged his body to read from the flock book on this subject, most elders do not. Mental illness deals with the nerves and some men will take advantage of a female whose sexual nerve endings are awry, especially if she is off her medicine.
According to the law oif the land and believe it or not the organization they have to wait until you are mentally sound before they can make a JUDICIAL DECISION on why you had this aberrant behaviour. I don’t know all the details of your case but most of the elder bodies are just unread men. That is why a person goes to Jesus and Jehovah for forgiveness of sin. If you feel you are not able to control these urges you may seek help from a mature one in the cong. In your case your therapist or doctor should have been sought out. No sane nations or religion convicts their mentally ill.
I am so glad you did what you had to do to get back in as this will allow you to get the needed help from your family and friends. You are welcome here for spiritual support and help. You are among thousands treated wrongly while ill. This is so unfortunate. Articles on this site can be a healer for you. Here are just a few.
You will find a copy of the flock book to look up the info on this link and also other topics on Disfellowship according to the Bible. We are the original Bible Students before Br. Rutherford formed the Jehovah Witness Organization around 1931.

        Hello Sharyn…
My experience is that the congregations don’t really know how to handle with people with a “mental illness”, I’ve known of some who were expelled… In the congregation itself it is mostly ignored that somebody has a mental illness.

  • It’s a pleasure to find such raitolnatiy in an answer. Welcome to the debate.
