How J. F. Rutherford Consolidated Dictitorial Power

Click here for this amazing historical book from 1930  –  Desolations of the Sanctuary 1929

This book chronicles the doctrinal and prophetic changes Rutherford made and explains how these changes were all for the purpose of transferring influence from Russell to Rutherford and for consolidating dictatorial power around the new movement, later to be name the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The book was written by early Watchtower brothren – EMIL and OTTO SADLACK – of Angerburg (East Prussia) Germany

PART TWO – ORGANIZATION
It did not take long till the idea (at first cautiously advanced) that the Society alone could teach, expound, etc., took firmer shape. Soon (by the end of 1922) the Society, under the leadership of its president, gave out peremptorily the axiom that independent private “interpretation” (which Brother Russell scripturally gave out as our principal task) was of Satan!! New light can only proceed from the “proper source, ” through “lawfully” appointed servants of the Lord, i.e., through the society, of course. The president wrote in the official organ: “Let no one flatter himself into believing that the Lord has specially authorized him to provide food for the household of faith by interpreting the Scriptures; for the Scriptures are not of private interpretation. The Lord reveals his Word through his appointed means.“”

The book has German Watchtower references.  We are looking for volunteers to find and replace these with the actual American Watchtower references.  (i.e. Watchtower year, month and page #.)

  • It is a strange tale. But, the way I see it, JWs are the final apostasy as led by the GB since 1976, forming since 1944. Now had JFR let the board takeover as indicated in 1917, then we would have had a “governing body” experiment since 1917.

The big expose’ was the “world-government-in-progress” international nucleus “image” in the League of Nations. I guess it took a drunken bully brawler to have to family jewels to connect them to the wildbeast world government of the future, and its now United Nations “image of the wildbeast”.

I just do not see the cajones to do this even in today’s apostate Jehovah’s witnesses.

Somehow, now that JWs have to go down very hard worldwide (Dan8:13-14), it will all work out for the best, because God has very hard to hit curve-balls, and He never misses the grand slam homer when it is time to hit this one out of the park, after JWs reap what has been sown.

The JW “end of the world” will fail, we have a global-crisis that resolves peacefully into “8th King” world government which some will try to sell to mankind as “God’s Kingdom”, of which JWs today utter not so much as ONE PEEP concerning.

THAT is why JWs are going down soon. (Dan8:13-14; Rev8) All that controversies of religion do is stall progress. Gotta go one one one with Christ to God, and let these religion businesses pass on, under “King North” “8th King” world government. (Rev17:12-17)

That seems to be what everyone has now become well distracted from.

Russell was a kind Christian Who deserved the title Paster whereas Rutherford was a drunken bully, power mad cheat, they say he changed most of the beliefs of International bible students and was the father of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. It’s true he was a strong bombastic individual, he did centralise power, he did announce the new name in 1931 he did reaveal the great crowd that would survives at Armageddon as the meek who were human survivors. He did insist that all preach publically and those who were deacons/elders must publically preach from house to house. Many men. In the 1920’s who had control of congregations left because they liked the position but did not want to preach. They left like the unhappy 4 directors did in 1917 where did they go ?
They started or joined Dawn Bible Students and numerous groups who all hated there former home all being called bible students. A distinction needed to be made what was this preaching about ? Jehovah incoming kingdom in the hands of Christ. Jesus was the ‘faithfull witness” the nation of Israel carried his name, they were called his named people. So these public preachers were witnessing About Gods name the wt magazine carried God name on its cover. What was Gods will for his Witnesses ? To carry his Name.
Was this a blessing 6000 witnesses in 1916 and 113000 witnesses in 1942, proof of Gods blessing. Some say Russell taught physical Israel and Rutherford changed this to spiritual Israel but Russell taught that the Bride were also called spiritual Israel in his book divine plan of the Ages. All the main teachings have remainred the same. God no trinity. Hell not exist, bride class 144000, God name to be preached as Jehovah, soul not immortal, Hope for most living on earth, vindication of Gods Name , issue of integrity for all as in Job and Christ. Jesus is master worker and only begotten Son. 1914 end of gentile times, preaching vital before end, Satan became a resister of God in garden when he spoke the first Lie, indicating he wants to be worshipped and replace God.
What did Rutherford really do that Russell did not teach, every body to preach, Jesus did not die for Adam, he recommended not to celebrate xmas, birthdays, and political neutrality. No much in 24yrs really.
He expresses loyality and brotherly love for Paster Russell while he was alive, he defended Bro Russell for 15 yrs, in the courts as his attorney , the 4 directors who were democratically voted in all congregations in USA off as directors, they were caught trying to change the watchtowers constitution set up by Paster Russell concerning its presidents role . These people bitter left and set up rival bible groups.
So much for their loyality to Bro Russell.

My father met the Judge when he was touring Australia back in the early 30s.
He happened to mention this about one year after I got baptised into the Jw faith, when I found out that my Dad had met the Judge I was ecstatic, wow what a privilege!
Full of youthful enthusiasm and a spot of hero worship,I asked Dad what was the Judge like?
His answer was was straight and to the point,Judge Rutherford was an alcoholic bully.
Needless to say I just couldn’t accept that, time and study has however proved my Dads words spot on.

Wild Olive – Very interesting. Have you heard any other first hand account stories of Rutherford or any other high ranking leaders?

    no human leader

the first two imply a human leader, which I am not

our work is an individual mission, individuals serving God in their own way.

the following annoucement shall appear in each issue of the WT, followed by the names of the editorial commitee.

because the next issue was ready to go before his death it was put in the following. two of the five gave resignation letters do to making a living and not being able to live close to Brooklyn. So a Mr. Hirsh and a Mr Rutherford where added and his will and those names were in that issue.

    That’s an interesting post Keepha.

Jesus’ humility, that he would lower himself to come down here and do what he did. God’s love in working that arrangement out makes both worthy of my love as well as if they needed to be worthy for the likes of me.

Rutherford was ambitious, that’s a fact. He apparently didn’t do much work on his character as his actions seem to show. I’m not one who lets the results of that and how they affected my life to stand between me and my savior as well as his God and mine.

How could a brother who claimed to have love for his brothers administrate a hostile take over something he did not start? He was dismissed from Bethel and then proceeded to come back and take over as some kind of supposed heir. That’s why I love Jesus the Messiah because he was so humble, that he never let the fact that he was truly God’s son make him conceited. Rutherford seems to have been strong willed with out regard to his brother’s conscience.
