Interview – How David Stein was disfellowshipped from the Jehovah’s Witnesses Organization by trying to save his father from Apostasy

THE RECORDING CAN BE HEARD HERE:  DavidSteinInterviewNov12-2011

On Saturday November 12, 2011.  Ex-JW and former Circuit Overseer Richard Rawe interviewed  David Stein a former JW and Bethelite, who is now a Bible Student Elder.   David Stein will tell the story of how he was disfellowshipped from the Jehovah’s Witnesses and how his wife was warned that their children would die in Armageddon.  It all started when David was afraid that his father was turning away from the Truth by talking with the Bible Students and turning to early Watchtower literature.  When David turned to a local elder for advice, the next thing he knew was that the organization had  disfellowship his father labeling him as an Apostate.  Distraught by how things turned out, David labored hard over the next years to win his father back over to the Society.  David saw that his father had been influenced by on old Bible Student by the name of Brother Frey.  David was determined to talk to this Brother Frey to find a way to put an end to his influence and win his father back to the “Truth.”  Find out what happened next.  David Stein will also talk about his efforts to reach out to JWs and share with them their early Watchtower roots, Brother Russell’s views on who would die in Armageddon (and the scriptural evidence) and how the Societies main doctrine – the Ransom for ALL  – changed 180 degrees.

The program starts at 7:00 pm EST.  On the West Coast it begins at 4:00 PST.   The Central Time zone is 6:00 CST.  You can participate in each of these mega conference call discussions by calling (712) 432-8710. I take this opportunity to send my warm Christian greetings to Peter K. Admin and Jacqueline. I am one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, fully awake, of course. I pray that Jehovah may give each of us more and more understanding of his Word, the Bible. Many years back I gave a comment on your website, which was published be Peter K. Admin. My love for Jehovah and Jesus Christ continues to grow each day as I read the Bible God’s Word, daily. My reading for today is John chapter 17.

    • Peter K. (admin)

      Hi Yuuki – Thanks for contacting us. Nice to hear you are studying John 17. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is verse 17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

      I believe the idea here is that the “truth” is to have an impact on our character and behavior. The doctrines and teachings of God (Jehovah) in the Bible reflect His character and are examples for us to follow morally and spiritually. This is what can be called character development or also growing the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our character (Gal 5:22-23; Eph 5:9). This is being sanctified by the guidance and lessons of the truth of scripture.

      The word “sanctify” (Strong’s 37) means “to make holy, consecrate, sanctify” (NAS Greek Lexicon). It is found in other Bible verses:

      1Cor 6:11 (NKJV) “And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified <37>, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”

      Eph 5:26 (NKJV) “that He might sanctify <37> and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word”

      2Tim 2:21 (NKJV) “Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified <37> and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”

      The Online Greek Lexicon has this for the word “sanctify”
      To make holy, consecrate, sanctify
      1) to dedicate, separate, set apart for God
      1a) Of things {#Mt 23:17,9 2Ti 2:21 }
      1b) Of persons: Christ {#Joh 10:36 17:19 }
      2) To purify, make conformable in character to such dedication
      2a) Forensically, to free from guilt {#1Co 6:11 Eph 5:26 Heb 2:11 10:10,14,29 13:12 }
      2b) Internally, by actual sanctification of life {#Joh 17:17,19 Ac 20:32 26:18 Ro 15:16 1Co 1:2 7:14 1Th 5:23 Re 22:11 }
      2c) Of a non-believer influenced by marriage with a Christian {#1Co 7:14 }
      3) In the intermediate sense of ceremonial or levitical purification
      3a) Of things {#2Ti 2:21 }
      3b) Of persons {#Heb 9:13 }
      4) To treat as holy {#Mt 6:9 Lu 11:2 1Pe 3:15 }

    When I was researching JW organization after being in it 50 years, David Stein was the first Bible Student I reached out to. Loved him and his wife. Also enjoyed his talks at convention.

  • Bret (Bible Student)

    Listened to this a couple of times over the last couple of years and it had quite a impact on me when i was waking up from the JW indoctrination and learning Bible Truth that has not changed unlike their claims.
    How could a “RANSOM FOR ALL” become a ransom for some? 1 Tim 2:6, Rom 5:18
    How could all mankind get a future judgment become only some face judgment day while others are judged before Jesus and his bride beggin their work as judges? Rev 20:4-6
    Thank you Brother Stein for your stand for truth and sharing your journey for truth with us.
    May Yahweh/Yahveh bless you..

  • I want to write to Br. Stein …….when he is there. My website is http://www.condit-energy.org

    • Jacqueline

      I will call Br David Stein and let him know you would like to talk. It is both of your choices but we would love to benefit from the dialogue.
      Also, thank you for your reading and comments. Jacqueline

  • Are all of u the real JW's or those who claim to be?

    David Stein, what offence was your father accused of committing,

    • Peter K. (admin)

      David Stein’s father was investigating and agreeing with the writings of the founder of the Watchtower, C.T. Russell. When the JW Elders found out, he was disfellowshipped.

      We are the children so to speak of the original Early Watchtower Bible Students. 75% of this original group left between 1917 and 1931 after Russell died and when Rutherford was forming a new religion called the “Jehovah’s Witnesses.” Many of us date out grand parents and great grandparents back to Russell’s day. However, other Bible Students came in after that.

        Why would Jw’s dis’f someone for looking at books they keep in their own library?

        • Jacqueline

          Ken the books are no longer on the shelf. I am sure you remember when they had all books printed prior to 1950 removed. If you or anyone else read studies in the scriptures or any other religious material and try and teach that teaching in the KH you will be DF’d. Try it (:). Br. Russells’s material is called old light and is said to be out of date. Ask your elders. They will check with the society and you will get a talking to and how you answer will determine if you are apostate. I have been thru an apostate meeting, although I didn’t know it. Later the brothers explained to me what they were forced to do by a letter from New York. They wrote back that they saw no evidence of apostasy, but that I had a strong sense of justice. They let me see what they were writing.
          I know it is difficult to see the real truth about the truth of the organization. But a corporation will always protect itself to ensure it survives it is not like a religion.

          • Jacqueline

            Ken I also wanted to add you can check out the procedures by reading Raymond Franz’s trial in his books. Also the Salem Witch trials follow the same format as the society. They are quite similar from my experience. I defended myself in the middle of the KH against one elder that didn’t agree. The elders came over to see what the fuss was about and agreed before everyone that my line of reason was accurate. I never let the brothers get me behind closed doors again. I always made them tell me why they wanted a meeting and spoke loud enough so that others would hear me answer any questions. After a while the one elder was told not to keep approaching me. He felt he was a big man on campus. I however knew I had the law of the land and the Bible on my side. I was not afraid to invoke either.

          • Ken

            Hi Jacqueline, since you mentioned it, I do remember reading about the older books being removed from the KH library.As far as teaching anyone at the KH from the books…I wouldn’t unless it was something of relavence in our time.

      I would like to say I am one of the Other Bible Students that came in afterwards. My Grandfather left about 1922 or so. My mom went on to another religion and came back to BS teachings in the 1940’s. About 1957 the Societycaused a split and appointed a Company Servant and the BS met on their own in the Black Cong. of the South. My mother went to both until I was 12 yrs old. Then they were lost to me and I thought JW became BS. Now I know that is not true.
      It seems as if like Israel blindness was imparted to JW so they could not see the BS movement until the internet explosion. We only had the awake and watchtower to tell us our history.
      So We (yes me included) are the original BS before Br. Ritherford broke away and formed the JW circa 1931.

    Hello Red21! And greeting in Jesus’ dear name!

    We touched the subject of the date of Christ’s return ever so lightly last night. When approaching this subject with someone new, I always start with the concept of the invisible return and subsequent presence and then proceed to the date of the return. I believe one can make a decent presentation from scripture for the date 1874. It is of some length however. My best recommendation is the presentation in Volume II of Studies in the Scripture entitled “The Time is At Hand.” That book is a study of Bible Chronology and will give you the perspective of most Bible Students regarding the date 1874. As I mentioned on the program last night, it is my personal view and belief, but I do not reject any who view the subject differently, but hope all would be open to a dialog on the subject. Let me know by my email if you do not have access to that book. If not, I would be glad to get a copy to you. The electronic version is available on the internet at many Bible Student sites.

    Thanks for your interest. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you.

    Your Brother in Christ,

    David

    David, I had the pleasure of listening to your interview while camping in Florida. It was nice sitting by the campfire and listening to your experience. It is amazing how they obtained and used a highly person letter against you. It is as if your own thoughts are not yours!!! I remember the elders once asking my wife and I some strange questions in the early 80s. They were investigating rumors that my wife got pregnant so she did have to work? As a young couple, I was intimidated by these questions and could never understand what business it was for them even IF that was our motivation (which it was not). We had consider children and been married for a year so there was nothing for them to investigate. That always bothered me. I asked them who was in our room the night we conceived and would know our motivations? Of course, they couldn’t answer. They left my home with no apology but never mentioned it again but they did allot of damage that day! I would like to learn more about why you feel the Christ’s presence began in the 1800s instead of 1914? Just curious about it for my own interest if you want to reply to me a short answer, I would appreciate it! -Florida

  • To expensive for me to listen to this interview from Australia.
    Can I possibly get a copy of this interview after broadcast?
    Also disfellowshipped from JWs January 2008 after 50 years due to their and thus Christianity’s foundation being at odds with Jehovah’s sacred word.
    Thanks

    • Peter K. (admin)

      Dieter – We will post a recording after the interview. David Stein has shared his story before and you can here about it by clicking here:

    • Jacqueline

      Dieter, disfellowship means nothing to us, you are our brother! You can add much to the discussion, I see you call it like you see it.(LOL). That can add a nice touch and flavor. Welcome an feel free to critique theses subjects. 50 years, wow! What organization wants to keep losing it’s foundation persons? But young ones are easily led until they mature physically and spiritually. You are welcome here and we are friends, my brother or sister. Peace! Jacqueline
