  • Thank you very much for your time and the scriptures that you gave me on this subject: Where does it actually say that the Great Crowd are “Not” over comers? I am looking at these scriptures, but I do not see that they are really identifying that the Great Crowd are “Not” over comers. If we make a judgement as to “not over coming” don’t you think we should have scripture that actually says this?

Joy – Thankyou for taking the time to review the scriptures provided.

I do not have a Bible verse to say the words, “the Great Crowd are NOT overcomers.” My opinion is that their going through tribulation to wash their robes white implies the robes were dirty (they were less than overcomers) and that their robes would be cleaned through special disciplines or tribulation experiences. (Rev 7:14; 1 Cor 3:15; Heb 12:6)

The Bride of Christ will sit on thrones because they are “overcomers.”

      Revelation 3:21 (NASB)
“He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”

In the sense in which the word “overcomers” is applied to the glorified Bride of Christ here, it can refer to no other people. In that sense of the word, it cannot apply to the Great Crowd.

However, to me the important issue here is that consecration (being baptized into Christ’s Body) does not guarantee membership in the glorified body. Being happy and joyful in Christ is good, but as I know you know, not sufficient by itself to qualify us to be earth’s future judges, priests and kings.

Among the consecrated New Creation, there must be a group who will not be part of the glorified Bride of Christ.

      Revelation 2:10 (NASB)
“Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

Otherwise, as with the “once saved always saved” doctrine Jesus does all the work with no effort on our part. Yes he does the work, however as Paul said:

      1 Corinthians 9:27 (NASB)
“but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.”

I am really glad you are here talking with us. Perhaps you feel different than I expressed, however I hope this helps you understand why I believe it. Feel free to provide evidence for your view if different.

  • I am trying to find out more about the Great Crowd in Revelation 7. Could you please tell me where in the Bible it says that this group are not over comers? Thank you very much and I do need more than just one scripture in context to prove any point of doctrine.

    Thanks again,

Sr. Joy – Nice to have you on our site. I will share my opinion.

Just as the bride of Christ is identified by many names in scripture (I.e. 144,000, wise virgins, little flock, body of Christ, etc.), so the Great Crowd is described in various ways (i.e. Bride’s companions of Psalms 45, foolish virgins of Matt 25, Levites of Ezekiel 44, etc.)

Check out here for more detail.

The bottom line is that not all on the narrow way to life to be in the bride of Christ will be OVERCOMERS. This is why Paul says:

      1 Corinthians 9:24, 27 (NASB)
“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win… but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.”

If Doctors and US Special Forces go through intensive training, how much more would this be true of the Bride of Christ, earths future judges, priests and kings. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Those who will share God’ s divine nature must be thoroughly tested. Those who love the Lord, but with compromises will be blessed with a secondary spiritual reward. More info can be found here:
