Recently, the Governing Body has modified the definition of the Faithful and Discreet Slave to exclusively apply to themselves and to not include the thousands of other anointed.

In the past, Jehovah’s Witnesses have believed that The Faithful and Discreet Slave is the collective body of “anointed” Christians alive on earth and that they exercise teaching authority in all matters pertaining to doctrine and articles of faith.  This belief is based on an interpretation of Matthew 24:45-47.

Watch Tower Society publications teach that Jesus uses this group exclusively “to publish information on the fulfillment of Bible prophecies and to give timely direction on the application of Bible principles in daily life as the only means of communicating God’s messages to people.  Hence, it is referred to as God’s “prophet and “channel”.

Appointments to positions of responsibility and decisions on doctrines, activities and oversight of Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide are made by the members of the Governing Body, who are said to serve as representatives of the “slave class”.  However no global network of anointed Witnesses exists to reveal new spiritual truths, and the remainder of the “slave class” are not consulted when making decisions.

Recently, some members of the anointed class wrote the Governing Body disagreeing with the way they were treating God’s household and questioning some of the teachings.  The Governing Body has permanently resolved this problem of dissent by cutting the other anointed out of the Faithful and Discreet Slave class, thereby completely consolidating their power and eliminating all opposition.

Do you believe the Faithful and Discreet Slave class of Matt 24:45-47 is:

* The Governing Body
* All “Anointed” JWs
* All “Anointed” Christians, even if not JWs
* C.T. Russell
* Not sure of the answer
* Other (Explain by posting a comment)

How would you apply the verses in Matt 24:45-47?

We would love to hear your thoughts.

“Reports are emerging of an announcement at the 128th Annual Meeting of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania that the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses now considers itself to be the Faithful and Discreet Slave Class of Matthew 24:45 in its entirety.”

“Suspicions were raised in the minds of many thinking Witnesses after reading articles such as the Questions From Readers of the August 15th 2011 Watchtower, where it was admitted that the Governing Body has no actual communication with memorial partakers (the “anointed”) and even feels that some of these ones may be mentally imbalanced. (see w11 8/15 p. 22)”

    This “new” view is really a slight modification of what was taught in the past during Russell’s time.

    While Russell never publicly admitted to being “the faithful and wise servant”, he did believe “That Servant” was an individual. However the “household” or “domestics” as the NWT renders it, were all the consecrated ones. Those who were running for the prize of the high calling.

    Although there is a quote from Russell where he applies a double application to the term “Household of faith”. He primarily applies it to the Church (144,000), and secondarily applies it to all who have put their faith in the shed blood of Christ.

    It seems the current Society are using the primary application with a slight modification. instead of the Slave being one individual, it is now solely those on the Governing Body. The rest of the anointed ones, are on the same level with the “other Sheep”, which really is nothing new. What they have done is officially put on paper what they have been doing for decades. The GB is the Slave Class.

    The only real change is that the leadership, have thrown the man who founded the Watch Tower Society, Pastor Russell, under the bus. Then again, they may decide to resurrect the following quote from the Awake! of May 8, 1951, “who is preaching the teaching of Pastor Russell? Certainly not Jehovah’s Witnesses! They can not be accused of following him, for they neither quote him as an authority nor publish or distribute his writing.”

    Dear Bob thanks ,
    And the Lord my God says in Psalm 23
    ” Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
    Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over”.

    Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
    and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
    This is my point:To dwell with God …, the perfect shepherd and host, promises to guide and protect us through life to bring us into his house forever.

    Peace to you brother.

    Magdalena – Thanks for all your comments. You have so much to say that it would help if you could briefly summarize the two or three most important points your have been trying to make. Sort of like three bullet point sentences. You have already provided the scriptures and explanations. Thanks.

    I just remember reading in Fred Franz’s book that while some may call themselves the annoited they have as much chance of inputing something into the magazines or shedding light as a regular publisher – and I haven’t seen any change in that over the years watching from afar. I’m wondering if these are just empty words since there’s no way for those who claim to be the annoited spread out in the different congregations all over the world to have any meaningful input if they, like the rest of the rank and file Witnesses, get called on for having an independent thought when they write in taking issue with what’s come out of headquarters? Isn’t it funny how much real unconditional love was actually practiced in Congregations of JW. They deserve better.

    I voted “other”. Why? Because no one knows at this time just who Christ will reward and praise for being FOUND (WHEN HE COMES) as being A “FAITHFUL AND DISCREET steward ”

    Remember, Jesus asked the question: Who REALLY is the faithful steward, the discreet one whom his master “WILL appoint” over his body of attendents to keep giving them their measure of food supplies at the proper time?

    It’s good to go to Luke to get more information on this subject: Luke 12:35-48

    Now Peter asked Jesus at verse 41: “Lord, are you saying this to us or to ALL?” Luke doesn’t show Jesus’ answer, but Mark does at Mark 13:27:

    “But what I say to you, I say TO ALL, keep on the watch.”

    So ALL “born again” Christians need to be “FOUND READY”, and be found actively doing Gods’ will, When Christ comes. See Hebrews 10:24-25,35-36.

    But again no one at this time can claim that they have already been chosen by Christ as a “faithful and discreet steward or slave because it is only obvious that NO ONE HAS BEEN REWARDED as such YET.

    ( And when I say “born again” Christians I am referring to 1 Peter 1:3-4 and 1 John 5:1

    Hi Jacqueline

    When i give answer i never think of how or what to answer,
    i just let God spirit guide me.
    It is God who remind me scriptures in my memory.
    It is as Jesus said in John14:16 I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever,— 14:17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive; for it doesn’t see him, neither knows him.
    You know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you.

    John14:25 I have said these things to you, while still living with you.
    14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you. 14:27 Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

    All we receive is out of mercy and not because we study scripture untill we turn blue .This we must not forget.
    The Holy spirit guide us into the light,so that it may be impossible for any one to boast. (Eph2:9)

    He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit(Tit3:5,Ezek36:25 )

    Therefore all boasting is shut out. All is the free gift of God, and the effect of being quickened by his power. It was his purpose, to which he prepared us, by blessing us with the knowledge of his will, and his Holy Spirit producing such a change in us, that we should glorify God by our good conversation, and perseverance in holiness.

    So let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water

    It is why Messiah says in John4:…whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

      Magdalena, I appreciate your thoughts on grace and mercy. Many feel knowledge and works entitles one to the blessing of the kingdom but Love is chief. Romans 8:35 is encouraging to many that are coming to this site, because we have been separated from God’s love that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Take Care. Jacqueline

    Dear Bob it says in Philp 2:13 For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.
    So the question need to be who is working inside us ?
    who is feeding our spirit ?

    If we are anointed with the Holy spirit it is God who feed our spirit.
    1John2:27…..you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him. 2:28 Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 2:29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of him.

    John15:4 Remain in me, and I in you.
    As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.

    Then, by their fruits YOU will recognize those [men].” (Matthew 7:15)
    Such fruitage would include the identifying mark of true Christians: Love. (John 13:35)
    Math 24:“Happy is that slave if his master on having come finds him doing so.”

    God,s peace to you all .

    • Jacqueline

      Hi Magdalena, I have nothing to add, but just to say I enjoy the love that comes across in your comments and style of writing. Especially your greetings on the end. And it is so refreshing to see one just talk with the Bible as the words. Thanks for your comments. In Christ and peace to you all too.

    All the anointed ones worldwide. Who are they appointed by? Not by the Governing Body. The anointed ones appointment comes through God’s Spirit to be part of the slave class.
    Scripture says they have a job to do regarding preparing food. Not some of them but all of them as a class. The Governing Body see’s to it that Elders have special meetings. The Governing Body see’s to it that Ministerial Servants have special meetings. Yet how is it that the Governing Body has no special meetings for their fellow spirit anointed Brothers and Sisters? One would think that these SPIRIT ANOINTED ones would be the first ones to have a special meeting. As scripture says in the multitude ..of counselors there is accomplishment. All SPIRIT ANOINTED one being consulted, before special meetings are held with Elders and Ministerial Servants about spirit directed matters. Jesus instructed if the least of his brothers are ignored it is like ignoring him. The Presiding Overseer acts on behalf of the body of Elders whom he consults with first. Their is good reason to believe the Governing Body is acting independent, and not consulting with ALL anointed ones.

    I’m still not convinced that the GB has changed the definition of the F&DS to exclude all others of the anointed class.

    Does anyone have a quote to substantiate this alleged change?

    • Jacqueline

      Hi, Vanderhoven 7,
      I don’t know the exact date of the watchtower, but I was sitting there. They essentially said,the other ones of the anointed class have other work that they are assigned to do. The GB is the one assigned to do the feeding work and has been appointed over all of his belongs. This came up because they said they spoke for the anointed. Many anointed wrote in and said they did’t speak for them, because they disagreed with some doctrine and specifically on the way they are treating God’s household. Many publishers were writing asking whether or not they are consulting with others of the anointed. This prompted the watchtower article. It is since the creation of the separate isssues came into being. Publisher edition watchtower. (2007-2009) I left in Aug. 2009, I was sitting next to an anointed brother when this was studied. Also I hear the issued studied in Nov. 2010 sort of changed it again. But here are some quotes’
      ***w09 2/15 p. 28 par. 17 They “Keep Following the Lamb”***The members of the Governing Body are experienced, spirit-anointed elders. They in particular can be described as “those who are taking the lead” among us. (Heb. 13:7)
      ***w09 11/15 p. 14 par. 5 We need to guard against developing a spirit of independence. By word or action, may we never challenge the channel of communication that Jehovah is using today. (Num. 16:1-3) On the contrary, we should cherish our privilege to cooperate with the slave class. And should we not strive to be obedient and submissive to those taking the lead in our local congregation?—ReadHebrews13:7, 17.
      ***w08 1/15 p. 26 par. 6 In a symbolic way, Christians with an earthly hope today walk behind the anointed slave class and its Governing Body, following their leadership.
      ***w08 5/15 p. 29 The Head, Jesus Christ, supplies the body members with what is needed for good cooperation, coordination, and spiritual nourishment. (Eph. 4:15, 16; Col. 2:19) In such respects, the Governing Body is organized to take the lead as Jehovah directs them by holy spirit.
      On jwstruggles.com those are all JW Elders and they can possibly give you the exact watchtower date. Take care. Jacqueline
