“For at the coming of the Lord there will be great activity on the part of Satan in the form of all kinds of deceptive miracles, signs, and marvels!” — 2 Thessalonians 2:9 (20th Century N.T.)
Many Christians are concerned about the increase of spiritism and occultism in the earth today, seeing it as a sign of the end times. In fact, Christians need to be especially on guard to shield themselves from this insidious foe, because they are the special targets of Satan and the fallen angels—demons. “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith…” (I Peter 5:8, 9 NAS) Indeed, these end times have witnessed the accumulative effect of the forces of evil—rotting away the fabric of society.
The power to be strong and to resist these evil influences is in the word of God. “This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4) “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17) It is our responsibility, then, to learn just how and why demons got so involved with mankind; what can be identified as spiritism today; and how we can protect ourselves and our loved ones against the forces of evil. The Apostle Paul stated: “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft… they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21) Therefore, it is essential for the Christian to be circumspect and not careless on this subject.
